Should I contribute more to my 401k or buy individual stocks?

Lessons our dad taught us about money and life
August 1, 2016
My father passed away on July 20, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. He was so strong and positive until the very end.
It was just a wake up call at how fast life can change. We get so caught up in the every day life moments, that we forget each day is truly a gift. Being able to get out of bed in the morning by yourself, making a cup of coffee, using the bathroom on your own, being able to look at the sky. So many amazing things happen to us each day that we just take for granted.
My father and I had two completely different views about money, which I talk more about in the video below. I wouldn’t be Young Yet Wise without my dad, although my dad didn’t have everything he was still very giving. He wasn’t able to invest in stocks, he invested in his children which was a great investment in itself.
Having to prepared for my dads funeral made me realize how important it is to have an emergency fund. Life happens, and it is best to be prepared so that you can be able to offer money to others for a cause that you care about in the time of need. It has also made me realize how important it is to have a will in place and even life insurance. A will is super helpful because it doesn’t leave your family scrambling to figure out everything on their own.
Money is so important because we need it for literally everything. I am now even more focused on building a legacy and wealth that I can leave behind for my family.
My dad will continue to live on within me, and I will use grief as the drive to going even harder all for him. Everyone’s goal should be to pass on generational wealth because at the end of the day your material items can’t save you. If you’re not saving and investing for yourself, at least do it for your children, and grandchildren. (Not sure how to start investing you can purchase a copy of my investing book here)
I hope you all have an amazing rest of your week. Remember we get one life, so what is the legacy that you’re going to be leaving behind? Also remember everything that you’re going through good or bad is sharing you into who you’re supposed to be.
If you’re dad is still alive, give him a call today for me let him know how much you love him
