I didn’t feel as though you needed to hear a post about money today. Which is strange because you know I love to write about money. This is just some thoughts someone may need to hear.
It is only the strong that execute
I was looking over my notes and read a quote that said “It is only the strong that execute.” There was something powerful about this line. I love it because it speaks so much truth. Any person can plan to do great things, but it takes strength to execute. It takes strength to go from being inspired to actually taking action.
It takes strength to have a vision for your life. To create a plan and build weekly steps that will get you to where you want to be. Even when your currently reality doesn’t match your vision. You have to focus. You have to walk in your vision and purpose even when what you see in front of you isn’t there yet, even when your own thoughts start to doubt you.
Every decision matters.
Every decision you make each and every day is either bringing you closer to where you want to be, keeping you the same, or driving you further away from your goal. Think about that for a second.
As we enter into the fall season maybe you realized that you haven’t been executing as well as you should. As the leaves start to fall you will most likely find yourself reflecting more on your life and how far you’ve come. Or how far you still have to go, but either way I want to tell you that you’ll be all right.
It’s easy to reach a certain age and feel as though you should already have certain things accomplished. I believe that everything you’ve done up to now is leading you to exactly where you need to be. If you aren’t where you want to be that just means there’s some things you still need to go through or learn in order to get there.
I think back to when I first started this blog. I had no mission statement, no email subscribers, no writing degree, plan or systems set into place. I just started writing. It probably wasn’t even good. Each blog post has helped me get better and I will continue to get better as long as I don’t give up. You too will get better as long as you don’t give up.
Sometimes the only way to get better is to suck.
Being a perfectionist is a cop out that you keep telling yourself because you’re afraid to be great. There’s an inner battle going on inside of you. There’s some part of you that doesn’t trust another part of you that believes that you have what it takes.
Truth is every post that I write isn’t a hit. Every video I post doesn’t get the views that I want or expect. Every person I email and want to collaborate doesn’t respond. Every blog post and every video has brought me here to this point. If I never posted anything because I didn’t believe it wasn’t good enough, I wouldn’t be where I am. I wouldn’t be able to get any feedback on my work. I would only have drafts of unfinished posts that the world would never get to see.
Sometimes the only way to get better is to suck. When you’re at the bottom you can only get better. Trust me every person that’s at the top right now at one point their work sucked too.
Sometimes the only way to change is to be fed up with where you currently are. You don’t have to have all the answers from day one. You can start and learn as you go. You can jump and build your wings on the way down. Your wings work.
Do not be afraid of criticism.
People are afraid of criticism and at times they mistakes criticism as hating. Someone had posted a photo of their new logo and there was way too much going on. I commented that she she try to keep is simple because less it more. What she had was great, but just to remove a few of the elements. It wasn’t me hating it was me giving constructive feedback. I’ve been designing since 05 trust me I know what I’m talking about.
What I loved about going to an art school is that criticism was apart of your growth strategy. After every project we would have to hang it on the wall or have it publicly displayed on the computer for the rest of the class to review and critique. Some days I would be so nervous. Will they like my work? Will it suck? Every critique I received only helped my work to be even better than before. If people only told me how great my work was all the time there would be no room for improvement. The only way to get to where you want to be is to keep producing. To keep working and building on your craft. Complaining won’t you get you there. Saying I wish I was as good as so and so won’t get you there either.
I know it’s so easy to get caught up in all the advice, the self development articles, books, blog posts, Instagram memes, and Facebook statuses, but I need you to know that inside of you there is a great teacher. You have so much knowledge inside of you, you just have to trust it. Trust that everything you’ve already learned up to this point in your life is going to serve you and bring you closer to your purpose. Your journey is your journey and it won’t look like anyone else’s.
I’m not saying to stop learning, because I feel as though we are never done learning. I just don’t want you to over look your greatness. I want you to stop looking around at what everyone else has and what everyone else is doing and take inventory of your own amazing stock.
Be Proud of your progress.
On this Tuesday I want you to reflect on how far you’ve come. I want you to close your eyes take a deep breath and know that everything will be all right. I want you to trust yourself. This is your life and if at any point you don’t feel as though it’s the story you want to live, you can change it. You don’t need permission to change your story, your plans, or your goals and remember that your wings work, they were crafted and build specifically for you.
I’m excited for what the rest of the year has in store for each and every one of us. Keep working hard. Even when it sucks because that is the only way you will get better.
With all my love,
